5 Day Course – 4th – 8th July
This course teaches the twelve types of stitches used for making kimono. (“Wasai”- to make Japanese clothing). Students will work samples of the stitches before
learning to cut and construct the collar and a sleeve as a half-scale toile. Traditional tools will be provided. The course features a demonstration of kimono dressing and talks covering the evolution of kimono, its position in modern Japan, tools and techniques used and a look into the social signalling achieved with collar and sleeve adjustment and shape.
