BODIES, STAYS & CORSETS c.1600-1900
2-Day Course – Wednesday 4th & Thursday 5th December
This course will introduce students to the differences between the stitched and smooth-covered bodies and stays of the 17th and 18th centuries, followed by the developments of corsetry of the 19th and early 20th centuries, with an emphasis on the appropriate lacing techniques used at the time.
Examples of extant and reconstructed objects from our School collection will be available in the classroom for close observation by the students and samples will be worked in modern versions of period appropriate materials.
