Description

Using objects from the School’s collection, as well as pattern and construction books from the library, we will explore the evolution of the kimono, its accessories, features and the textiles used to make kimono.

Students will make some samples of techniques used to construct kimono with Japanese tools, as well as a half-scale obi to practice tying different knots.

The focus will be mainly on women’s kimono due to the materials and objects we will study, but there will be the opportunity to learn about the differences between men’s and women’s kimono.
