DARNING 1600–1900 – FUNCTIONAL AND FANCY
SATURDAY 18th & SUNDAY 19th MAY
2-Day Course
from 10am to 6pm
Garments were frequently darned and patched to prolong their use, whether with basic reinforcing and mending techniques or mimicking complex weaves. This course looks at the now overlooked skills that not only repaired, but often enhanced clothing, using examples from the School’s collection, including a 1773 darning sampler. Students will make samples of various darning stitches.
