HAND SEWING FOR BEGINNERS
The Basic Stitches used for a Thousand Years of Historical Dress c.1000–2000 CE
SUNDAY 16th JUNE
1-Day Course – from 10am to 6pm
Using extant garments, fragments of garments and samplers from 1000–2000 CE from the School collection as examples, this course will include instruction on how to hold a needle, wear a thimble and work the basic stitches, including running (fore) stitch, back stitch, felling and whipping.
Students will practice these techniques in linen, cotton and silk threads on a sampler of several different textiles.
